Welcome to Kevin's Corner Page.
Let me first introduce myself. I was born in 1976 in California, USA. I grew up in Southern California riding dirtbikes and watersking in the summer time and started windsurfing when I was 8 years old and there has been no looking back ever since. I entered my first contest when I was 11 at the Gorge and have now been competing for 17 years.
I won my first US National Championship in 1989 and my first World Championship title in 2000. Since 2000 I have managed to win 6 World Titles and I am still hoping to capture a couple more. I currently reside in Maui Hawaii where I do all my testing and training for Professional windsurfing.
This is a page where I can answer any of your questions regarding the boards that I sail on. I have now been riding with Starboard for three years and have been helping in the testing and designing of boards. Let me introduce the models that I use.
The S-Type. This is my favorite board of the lineup. I would recommend it to everyone except the hardcore waverider. This board does it all. It goes really fast, it jumps, it turns, it loops, and it is really fast. I was surprised since the day I got on it and have loved it ever since. This summer it was my board of choice for going out and having a good time and that says a lot because I have the ultimate quiver of boards. I use the 115 with sails 7.4 down to 5.3 and then switch down to the 104 from 5.3 to 4.2 for optimum sailing. I think you could easily sail with a 6.5 on the 104.
The Acid is my next favorite in the line and this years are set to be some of the best ones ever. The 94 is the one that I worked on the most and it a pretty good board for how big it is. It is a fast big wave board that will get you out in some of the lightest wave conditions and keep you ripping up your local beach. I use it on sails for 6.6 to 5.3 and can handle some pretty strong winds especially when it is onshore. I usually use it with the 24cm M&M Drake fin that comes with the board. I am really happy with the production fin that comes with the board as it feels just as good as my custom wave fins.
The Sonic is also another great board. It was the board I used for my World Championship Slalom title in 2003 and that was the first time that I ever rode the board, straight from Thailand to France, sailed it one day, raced it the next. The Sonic range of boards came from years and years of development all the way back from 1998. Little changes here and there along the way made for the slalom rocket ships that came out in the Sonic. Easy to use, speed to burn, and a chunky rail for keeping the speed up through the gybes are just some of the features of this range. My favorite board is the 100, which I use is most all slalom conditions. I can use this board from 5.5 to 7.6 which has a great range on it.
The formula 159 is the formula racing board of choice. This years board continues in on the huge amounts of R&D done from previous years, with little subtle changes to make this years one better than ever. I really enjoy the 12 meter sail on this board and makes for some nice light wind cruising.
